Tell us about your path to setting up your business and what motivated you?

This business was a happy accident for me, something wonderful emerged from a hobby I loved. As I began defining my photography style I started to share my images on social media. I then started to get enquiries and my business has grown organically, mostly through word-of-mouth, since then. Which is both humbling and incredibly exciting.

How do you work and what is a typical day like for you?

This can vary with the seasons. Wedding season tends to run from May to October and I can spend many hours editing into late into the night whilst also juggling photoshoots around my family life. I could do with a few more hours in the day during these months. However, Winter is an opportunity for reflection, downtime and planning for the year ahead.

What are the best parts about your business?

I'm motivated by meeting new people and sharing their stories. For me there is no greater honour than being allowed into some of the most intimate and important parts of a persons life and creating memories for them to cherish. Whether that's documenting the excitement of a wedding morning or capturing a mother bringing a baby into the world - there's no feeling like it.

What has been your greatest struggle as a business owner so far?

The greatest challenge is finding the balance between my work and family life and getting the right balance for my daughter and partner. Having a young child is definitely the toughest job of all and I often find myself plagued with mum guilt when I’m tucked away editing. Thankfully my partner is my rock, he second shoots weddings with me which is really awesome. We’re a team in life and love and it really works for us.

What has been your biggest a-ha moment so far?

When I realised that I could actually make a business from something I loved!

Do you have any advice for other small business owners?

Probably not to compare yourself to others, I put off starting a photography business initially thinking that Jersey had enough photographers already. But there's plenty of room for everyone, find your passion, your niche and go for it!

What currently inspires you?

The people I meet and sharing their own unique stories and connections.
